Adrenocortical cancer is a rare disease in which there is a form of cancer in the cortex (outer layer) of an adrenal gland. There are two adrenal glands one sits on the top of each kidney, the adrenal cortex creates important hormones, which include balancing the water and salt, controlling blood pressure and helping the body use energy.

Adrenocortical tumors usually make an extra amount of one or more adrenal hormones, which can lead to symptoms.

Some heritage disorders increase the risk of adiceptive cancer. These include Lei-Fraumeni Syndrome, Beckwith-Wiedeman Syndrome and Karnie Complex.
